'Saturday Night': Jason Reitman's 'SNL' Film Is Hitting Theaters This October

It’s only been about a year since it was first announced that Jason Reitman was going to direct a film about the first year of “Saturday Night Live.” Eventually, the full cast was announced and the film was quickly put in production. Now, we have an official title and release date, which seems like the film could be in a prime position for awards season.

According to Deadline, Jason Reitman’s ‘SNL’ film is now titled “Saturday Night” and will debut in theaters on October 11. The film is said to detail the work it took to premiere the show back in 1975. And if you’re wondering why they chose October 11 to debut the film, it’s actually 49 years exactly from the airing of the first episode of ‘SNL.’ And since the film takes place on that day, it just fits perfectly.

Not only is the October 11 date perfect for sentimental reasons, but it also puts “Saturday Night” clearly in the middle of awards season. And as Deadline reports, we shouldn’t be too shocked to see Reitman’s film show up in Toronto for TIFF. That would seemingly give the film the perfect launching pad before its release date.

The huge ensemble cast for the film includes Gabriel LaBelle, Dylan O’Brien, Cory Michael Smith, Rachel Sennott, Lamorne Morris, Nicholas Braun, Finn Wolfhard, Jon Batiste, Ella Hunt, Cooper Hoffman, Andrew Barth Feldman, Naomi McPherson, Willem Dafoe, J.K. Simmons, and Kaia Gerber. The film is directed by Jason Reitman, who co-wrote the script with his frequent collaborator, Gil Kenan

As mentioned, “Saturday Night” is set to debut in theaters on October 11.
