It’s been a banner year for Sebastian Stan, with his two Golden Globe nods on Monday the icing on the cake. He’s up for Lead Actor in both the Drama and Musical/Comedy categories, for “The Apprentice” and “A Different Man,” respectively. And Deadline reports that Stan shows no signs of slowing down his buzzy output, as a new interview details three upcoming projects for the actor.
Marvel fans already know Stan returns as Bucky Barnes in next year’s “Thunderbolts*,” but what comes for him after that? Well, all three films he’s attached to sound fantastic, and one of them is a dream come true for Stan. He’ll star in filmmaker and fellow Romanian Cristian Mungiu‘s next movie. It’s the first time anyone’s heard of the project. “I was born in Romania. I still speak the language, and I’ve been trying to find a project where I can go back and tap back into that history that I have,” Stan told Deadline, “so I’m excited about working with him, and hopefully that’s going to come together.” American audiences sill know Mungiu best as the director of the Palme d’Or winner “4 Months, 3 Weeks And 2 Days“; he and Stan plan to shoot the film next year.
After that, Stan reteams with his “Pam & Tommy” co-star Lily James for “Let The Evil Go West.” Danish filmmaker Christian Tafdrup helms the horror thriller, about a railroad worker who goes mad after stumbling upon a fortune, while his wife believes their new wealth attached an evil presence to their family. Tafrup’s “Speak No Evil” just got remade by Universal, so expect this one to get a major release stateside. Stan said Tafdrup’s been sitting on “Let The Evil Go West” for some time now. “This is a project that’s been going on for a while, and it always gets tricky,” he explained. “It’s about finding the right scheduling and the right time to do it. But that’s something I’m really excited about.”
And what’s upcoming project #3 for Stan? That’d be Justin Kurzel‘s “Burning Rainbow Farm,” which should also collect its fair share of buzz as more praise for “The Order,” in theaters now, comes piling in. Kurzel’s next picture is reportedly another true crime pic, inspired by two marijuana advocates who face off against the FBI in five-day standoff in Michigan, just days before 9/11. If “Burning Rainbow Farm” is as sturdy as “The Order,” expect a mega performance from Stan in it.
So, will another of those three projects notch more Golden Globe nods for Stan? We’ll see, but the actor is “stunned and incredibly ecstatic” about the two he received this year. And it’s safe to expect Stan will at least be in the running for the same nod at the Oscars with “A Different Man.” Good luck this awards season, Mr. Stan: it’s nice to see you take your (relatively) post-Marvel career seriously.
