Home invasion stories are a mainstay in the thriller genre. Being hunted in your own house while you’re alone is the stuff of nightmares and is a primal fear for many people. There’s a reason why home invasion thrillers are always hitting theaters. But in the new film, “See For Me,” the typical home invasion thriller is flipped on its head thanks to its lead character.
As seen in the trailer for “See For Me,” the film follows the story of Sophie, a young woman who is just hoping for a relaxing time house-sitting in a secluded mansion. That’s when her worst fear comes true and she is being hunted by unknown men breaking into the home. But what makes this extra frightening is the fact that Sophie is blind and has to rely on a kind person on her smartphone to act as her eyes while she attempts to escape this terrible situation.
The film stars Skyler Davenport in the lead role of Sophie. Interestingly, unlike many Hollywood features, Davenport is actually visually impaired and on the spectrum, showing how “See For Me” is putting a bit more of an emphasis on authenticity when presenting a visually impaired character. Since losing their vision in 2012, Davenport has had an extensive career doing voice work for video games and animated series, such as “Final Fantasy” and “Pokemon.”
“See For Me” is directed by Randall Okita, whose previous feature film is 2016’s “The Lockpicker.” “See For Me” arrives in select theaters and VOD on January 7, 2022. You can watch the trailer below.
