Decades after her tragic death, there has yet to be another performer quite like Selena Quintanilla. Her legacy has lived on with a feature film starring a young Jennifer Lopez and now, years later, in a new series from Netflix, simply titled “Selena: The Series.”
Last year, the streaming service released the first batch of ‘Selena’ episodes, telling the story of the young singer’s rise in the Tejano music scene and up to the brink of superstardom. Of course, if you watched that “Part 1,” you know it ended in heartbreak as the singer had to leave the love of her life behind. The second half of the series now tackles Selena’s dominance in Tejano music and her attempt to crossover into English-language pop music. Sadly, we all know how this story ends.
Bringing the life of Selena Quintanilla to Netflix is a cast that includes Christian Serratos, Gabriel Chavarria, Ricardo Chavira, Noemí Gonzalez, Seidy López, Jesse Posey, Julio Macias, and Natasha Perez. Much like the first half of the season, the second half is created by Moises Zamora, with Hiromi Kamata and Katina Medina Mora directing the episodes.
The final batch of “Selena: The Series” episodes hit Netflix on May 4. You can watch the new trailer below.
Here’s the synopsis:
