Shirley MacLaine, Maria Bello, Christina Ricci, John Corbett and Bill Pullman have all evidently joined the cast of “Wild Oats.” Directed by Scott Marshall (“Keeping Up with the Steins,” the 2007 Jessica Simpson bomb “Blonde Ambition”) is actually of all things, an action comedy that centers on a retired widow (MacLaine) whose quiet life is turned aside when a sudden cash windfall sets her off to Vegas with her granddaughter (Ricci).
It sounds mildly diverting and the cast is good, but frankly, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
Marshall is the son of one Garry Marshall (“Valentine’s Day,” “Georgia Rule” with Linsday Lohan*) and his films (as if you can’t tell from the aforementioned ones) aren’t exactly Academy Award-nominated material to say the least [*Yes, Marshall also directed “The Flamingo Kid,” “Frankie and Johnny” and “Pretty Woman,” that was ages ago]. Hey, maybe it’ll be OK or entertain your mom?
