Over the past several years, there’s been huge growth in the “van life” movement, with people selling all their stuff, packing the necessities in a camper van, and living the nomadic life, traveling from place to place experiencing total freedom. But that’s not always as great as it sounds, as is seen in the new film, “The Short History of the Long Road.”
As seen in the trailer for the film, “The Short History of the Long Road” follows the story of a young woman living the nomadic van life, having experienced it for a long time prior with the support of her father. However, on her own, Nola is having issues living this lifestyle and has to forge new bonds with people in New Mexico that help her figure out what to do next.
The film stars Sabrina Carpenter, Danny Trejo, Steven Ogg, Maggie Siff, Jashaun St. John, and Rusty Schwimmer. ‘Short History’ is written and directed by Ani Simon-Kennedy. It’s the first feature-length project that Simon-Kennedy has helmed since 2013’s “Days of Gray.” ‘Short History’ debuted at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival where it landed the Special Jury Mention for Best Screenplay.
“The Short History of the Long Road” arrives on VOD on June 16.
Here’s the synopsis:
For teenage Nola (Sabrina Carpenter), home is the open road. Her self-reliant father (Steven Ogg) is her anchor in a life of transience. The pair criss-cross the United States in a lovingly refurbished RV, making ends meet through odd jobs while relishing their independence. A shocking rupture, though, casts Nola out on her own. She makes her way to Albuquerque, New Mexico in search of a mother she never knew, only for her motorhome to break down unexpectedly. But after forging a bond with an auto body shop owner (Danny Trejo), Nola senses the possibility of mooring her ship in this storm.
