Got a Tip?

Showtime “Musing” More ‘Twin Peaks’

“….the door’s always open to David Lynch, whether that would lead to another season, I don’t know if he wants to do it,” Showtime programming president Gary Levine said this summer about the possibility of more “Twin Peaks.” The return of the cult series this summer echoed the pop culture phenomenon it created in the ’90s, and with David Lynch behind the camera for all the episodes, every enigmatic, gorgeously strange frame had his singular vision. It marked a major return for the director whose last significant effort was 2006’s “Inland Empire.” But the question remains, will there be more?

There’s no definitive answer just yet, but “Twin Peaks” co-creator Mark Frost reveals that the possibility for a fourth season is there, and being mulled over.

“I haven’t decided yet,” he told IndieWire. “I think it’s still an open question and it’s one that we’re looking at and one that I think Showtime is musing as well.”

All that being said, everyone involved rightly realizes that the process can’t be rushed, and that “Twin Peaks” can only potentially be brought back (again) when it makes sense to do it. “It’s something you have to think long and hard about,” Frost explained. “We’ll make the decision when the time is right. There certainly is no sense of urgency about it.”

So, don’t expect “Twin Peaks” return next year, but let’s hope fans don’t have wait another two decades for whatever Lynch decides to cook up next.
