They may be without a Jason Segel this time around, but with celebrities like Tina Fey, Ricky Gervais, Tom Hiddleston and more populating the human-side of the cast, the “Muppets Most Wanted” should do fine for Disney’s bottom line. Just to be safe, the mouse house has unleashed a few parody posters and some videos designed to push you off the fence and into the theater.
First up, via Screen Rant, is rather topical TV spot that namechecks the (already tired) John Travolta Oscar meme, Adele Dazeem as a critic with a positive blurb that, of course, references the Oscar-winning Disney hit “Frozen.” The site also has four new posters for the puppets-starring sequel that parody posters from “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier Spy,” “Face/Off” (bizarrely), and two James Bond movies.
Next up, courtesy of Moviefone, is a clip from the film that shows the ruthless cunning of Kermit’s doppelganger, master criminal Constantine, or more accurately his annoyance with Miss Piggy. Ricky Gervais’ unambiguously-named character, Dominic Badguy, makes an appearance as the criminal’s right hand man in the clip and can be seen impersonating an international tour manager in a clip from ComicBookMovie.com where he cons the Muppets into hiring him by name-dropping One Direction and U2. Watch both clips, along with the TV spot and parody posters, below. “Muppets Most Wanted” hits theaters on March 21st.
