Bong Joon-ho‘s “Snowpiercer” continues to roll out around the world… except in territories where The Weinstein Company has distribution rights. With no U.S. release date and the battle of the theatrical cut of the movie still presumably unresolved, perhaps this is a sign that there’s hope on the horizon?
“Snowpiercer” has been added to the Forum — Special Screenings section of the upcoming Berlin Film Festival. It’s a nice boost to what has been a pretty good week for the movie, which was also given Best Film and Best Director honors at home from The Korea Film Reporters Association (via Yonhap), where the apocalyptic thriller has been a massive hit. But as always, we sit and wait to see if and when “Snowpiercer” will dock stateside, but will Harvey Weinstein‘s recent claims to want to release less violent pictures be an issue when it comes to this flick?
“I have to choose movies that aren’t violent or as violent as they used to be. I know for me personally, you know, I can’t continue to do that. The change starts here,” he told Piers Morgan (via Deadline). “It has already. For me, I can’t do it. I can’t make one movie and say this is what I want for my kids and then just go out and be a hypocrite.”
Something to consider, anyway. The Berlin Film Festival runs from February 6-16th. Check out the Forum additions below, along with some new pics from “Snowpiercer.”
