While it was a nice thought while it lasted, “The Newsroom” former showrunner Aaron Sorkin killed the rumor of the 2014 show’s revival.

After her red carpet premiere for her role in one of the most recent X-Men movies “X-Men: Apocalypse,” former ‘Newsroom’ star Olivia Munn expressed her interest in reviving the broadcast-themed show. She explained how she brought it up with other costars along with Sorkin himself. Many fans and Munn agreed that it would be interesting to bring back “The Newsroom,” a show that provided a behind-the-scenes look at a fictional journalist news studio as well as a commentary on the contemporary media. In this political and social climate, “The Newsroom”nowadays would have a lot to talk about.

However, the return of “The Newsroom” is not to be. While appearing on James Corden‘s “The Late Late Show,” Sorkin squashed any ideas of the HBO series returning. “I have no plans to return to anything else I have done,” Sorkin told Corden. He does go on to admit, though, “I wish the show was on the air now.”

However, this raises another interesting question; does Sorkin’s unwillingness to go back to his previous works mean that he’s changed his mind on a “Social Network” sequel? He was the original scriptwriter for the biographical drama film chronicling Mark Zuckerberg starting Facebook; if a sequel ever does happen, will he sign on to write it, or move on to bigger and better projects? Only time will tell on that rumor.

As for “The Newsroom,” at least we know for sure that it is well and truly laid to rest.
