You have to imagine that the pitch for “Spies in Disguise” was pretty quick. The animated film has one of those premises that is so easily explained in one sentence that a studio probably knew right away whether or not the film was going to get made. The animated film follows the world’s best super spy who gets turned into a pigeon and must save the world as a bird. Simple.
And as seen in the latest trailer for the film, the premise is so simple that most of the trailer can be given to a montage of action scenes featuring the spy bird and a new song from musicians Mark Ronson and Anderson .Paak.
The film stars the vocal talents of Will Smith, Tom Holland, Rashida Jones, Ben Mendelsohn, Reba McEntire, Rachel Brosnahan, Karen Gillan, DJ Khaled, and Masi Oka. “Spies in Disguise” is directed by Troy Quane and Nick Bruno, who are making their feature-length directorial debuts.
“Spies in Disguise” arrives in theaters on December 25.
Here’s the synopsis:
Twentieth Century Fox presents a Blue Sky Studios production, “Spies in Disguise,” an animated spy comedy adventure set in the slick, high-octane, globe-trotting world of international espionage. Super spy Lance Sterling (Will Smith) and scientist Walter Beckett (Tom Holland) are almost exact opposites. Lance is smooth, suave and debonair. Walter is…not. But when events take an unexpected turn, this unlikely duo is forced to team up for the ultimate mission that will require an almost impossible disguise-transforming Lance into the brave, fierce, majestic…pigeon. Walter and Lance suddenly have to work as a team, or the whole world is in peril.
