With exactly two weeks left on his Kickstarter campaign, Spike Lee has raised just over half of the $1,250,000 he’s looking for to fund his next joint. More rewards have been added, friends and colleagues continue to voice their support and Lee is driving hard to the hoop for the movie that he’s still keeping the details about under wraps. But this week he’s unveiled slightly more.
First off, he’s added his first cast member, selecting Zaraah Abrahams to take the female lead role. She’s a British actress, mostly known for her stints on “Coronation Street” and “Waterloo Road,” but Lee discovered her in the student film “Black Girl In Paris.” And we’ll let him explain it from here:
English Actor, Ms. Zaraah Abrahams has been offered the Woman Lead in my New Film here on Kickstarter. I first saw Zaraah in BLACK GIRL IN PARIS, this is a NYU GRAD Thesis Film Directed by Kiandra Parks, a Student of mine. I remember Kiandra screening a rough cut of her film in my NYU Office, as I watched I kept being drawn to the Co-Star, she was dominating this 20 Minute Film. After the screening was done I told Kiandra that “She had a very good film” and “Who is the Co-Star? What is her name? Where did she come from? How did you find her? How come she is the Co-Star and not the lead? I need to get in touch with her.” I tracked her down and Zarrah is even better than I thought. If I know anything, I know Young Talent. These are Individuals who have that special something, a true gift from God and they only need the platform, the vehicle to “SHOW DA WORLD” what they got. 40 Acres and A Mule over the years has been that platform in front and BEHIND THE CAMERA Too.
All we know about the forthcoming feature is that it will be “addiction, blood and sex” with Lee promising “a new kinda lovestory.” But a new teaser poster below (via RecentMoviePosters) is perhaps another indication of the kind of movie people are funding, and well, we’re certainly curious. Can Lee cross the finish line with all the cash he needs to make this happen? The next couple of weeks are bound to be interesting…
