Actor and national treasure, Keanu Reeves, has had an incredible 2019. Aside from being one of our most celebrated actors and a certified meme-machine, he starred in multiple critical and box office hits this year such as “Toy Story 4,” “Always Be My Maybe,” and of course, “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.” But in 2020, Keanu has his eyes set on conquering Bikini Bottom in the new Spongebob movie, “The SpongeBob Movie: A Sponge on the Run.”
In the first trailer released today, we see Spongebob (voiced by Tom Kenny) and his friend Patrick (Bill Fagergakke) embarking on an epic quest to find Spongebob’s pet snail, Gary. We get a brief glimpse at Keanu when the two come across him in the form of a wise and all-knowing ancient sage.
Most of the original cast members from the previous films and TV series will reprise their roles in the newest film. Alongside Reeves, Awkwafina, Snoop Dogg, and Reggie Watts all play supporting roles in the movie. The ‘Spongebob’ films have a history of having creative celebrity cameos dating all the way back to 2004 with David Hasselhoff’s role in “The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie.”
‘Sponge on the Run’ will be the third feature-length movie in the franchise, and the first since the death of original series’ creator, Stephen Hillenberg, in November 2018.
“The SpongeBob Movie: A Sponge on the Run” will hit theaters on May 22, 2020.
