While the world still reacts to the passing of Stan Lee, one of the biggest questions amongst fans is whether or not the Marvel Comics legend was able to shoot cameos for upcoming films before his death. We’ve already heard that “Avengers 4” will have the requisite cameo from Lee, but apparently, there’s one 2019 Marvel movie that doesn’t have a cameo from the writer.
According to a report from EW, Lee never filmed a cameo for the upcoming “X-Men” film “Dark Phoenix.” While it’s unclear if this was a matter of timing or if he was never set to appear in the film, “Dark Phoenix,” will mark the first “X-Men” film to not have Lee appear in a cameo. This is doubly sad, not just because the writer co-created the titular superheroes, but also because the famous “Stan Lee cameo” was really kicked off in 2000’s “X-Men” film.
Most recently, Lee appeared in “X-Men: Apocalypse,” which also featured his wife Joan and now could be the final X-related cameo for the writer.
EW speculates that perhaps Fox never intended for Lee to have a cameo in “Dark Phoenix,” as the film is said to have a more grounded and grittier take on the superhero franchise. The film finds the X-Men battling one of their own, Jean Grey, as she becomes taken over by an entity known as the Phoenix Force. Even if “Dark Phoenix” is to have a more serious tone, it’ll still be a shame to exclude Lee from the proceedings, as he’s been such a vital figure in the creation of the X-Men, as well as a mainstay in the film series.
We’ll have to wait and see if Lee shows up when “Dark Phoenix” hits theaters on June 7, 2019.
