The next big “Star Wars” event of the Disney era of the franchise is heading to the small screen with the Deborah Chow-directed prequel series “Obi-Wan Kenobi.” The series reunites Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen after last working together on “Star Wars: Revenge of The Sith.”
Fans are excited to see the two actors back in the franchise but if it was up to McGregor, this wouldn’t be the last time he’ll play the iconic Jedi. While speaking with Total Film, the Scottish actor revealed he’s already keen to play Obi-Wan Kenobi again if the opportunity comes up.
“If we were to get an opportunity to do it again, I’d be totally up for that,” McGregor told the outlet.
McGregor also talked up his positive experience making the new show compared to George Lucas‘ prequel trilogy which could explain why he’s so readily interested in returning.
“It was nice to come back and to bridge that gap between me and Alec Guinness. I got as much, or more, out of playing him this time than I did in the first three movies put together. That’s to do with the writing, and the people we were making the series with, and the technology, and how different everything is.”
Right now, there aren’t current plans for a follow-up to ‘Kenobi’ as it has been referred to as a “limited series.” However, with Star Wars Celebration on the horizon later this month, Lucasfilm/Disney+ could change their minds as they did with “The Mandalorian” (a limited series that got a second and third season).
Christensen is said to be part of the “Ahsoka” series reprising Anakin Skywalker. Finding another project for McGregor might not be too difficult if the studio keeps making shows that take place when Kenobi is still active.
“Obi-Wan Kenobi” will begin airing on May 27.
