New Behind-The-Scenes Video From 'Star Wars Resistance' Introduces Your Heroes, Team Fireball

I have to admit, despite my decidedly nerdy interests, I’m very surface-level when it comes to the “Star Wars” universe. I like the movies (well, most…some of them, anyway), and have seen just a little bit of the “extracurricular” stuff, such as the cartoons or comic books. But don’t confuse me with someone who can explain all the ins and outs of the galaxy far, far away.

That being said, “Star Wars Resistance” looks pretty fun. Sure, being a grown adult, the series was not created for me, but after watching the latest behind-the-scenes video explaining the main characters, I find myself actually interested in checking out the series.

And in the aforementioned video, you do meet Team Fireball, aka the heroes of ‘Resistance.’ For those not aware of the new animated “Star Wars” series coming to Disney Channel in October, ‘Resistance’ features the group known as Team Fireball, as they infiltrate the First Order as spies for the fledgling Resistance movement. Kazuda “Kaz” Xiono and his group of misfits are assigned this highly-important mission thanks to familiar faces General Leia Organa and hotshot pilot Poe Dameron. Reportedly set about six months before the events of ‘The Force Awakens,’ ‘Resistance’ continues Lucasfilm’s recent trend of filling in the three-decade-long gap between ‘Return of the Jedi’ and the recent films.

Team Fireball features characters you would come to expect from a new “Star Wars” property. You have your likable, but in well over his head, lead character. You have the requisite alien humanoid, good for a couple laughs. There’s the wise older guide, who is there to dispense the information and lessons. You have the upstart, badass female that is obviously going to be far superior to the leading man. And finally, there’s the droid…well, because it wouldn’t be a “Star Wars” project without a droid.

Even with the classic “Star Wars” character archetypes on display, ‘Resistance’ still has a fresh feeling missing from some of the bigger-budgeted, live-action counterparts. Maybe it’s the unique animation or the way Dave Filoni explains everything, but overall, it just feels different. And that’s exactly what “Star Wars” needs right about now.
