With Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit" now stretching across three films, there is even more room to surprise fans of the director's adaptations of J.R.R. Tolkien's books. And Colbert Nation followers in particular, will want to keep an eye out.
Picking up on a rumor that has been kicking around this week, THR confirms that Stephen Colbert will have a cameo appearance in either "The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug" or "The Hobbit: There And Back Again." Rumblings first began of Colbert possibly making an appearance after an interview he did with Playboy. "Peter Jackson invited me to the set last year," he said. "I flew out and watched them shoot some scenes and went to some locations. I saw a 25-minute cut, and it was amazing. Jackson knows I'm a big fan of the films."
When asked directly by the magazine if he was going to be in the movie, Colbert smiled and teased, "Could be." And now, the answer appears to be yes.
Of course, there's no word on what exactly his role is, if he will actually be recognizable (or under pounds of makeup), if it will actually make the theatrical cut or perhaps feature on the inevitable extended versions of the films. Either way, pay attention when the second and third films land on December 13, 2013 and July 18, 2014 respectively.
