Got a Tip?

Steven Spielberg Reportedly Enters Talks To Direct Moses Movie ‘Gods And Kings’

nullSteven Spielberg has pretty much done it all. You name a genre and he's tackled it in some fashion or another, either as a director a producer, however, one arena he hasn't played in at all is the bible movie, though that may be about to change.

It was just a couple months ago that it was first reported that Warner Bros. were seeking out Steven Spielberg for their planned epic "Gods And Kings," and now it looks like both sides are actually now talking to each other about it. Twitch reports that the casual conversation has now turned into actual conversations between the helmer and studio to take on the kind of movie we haven't seen from Hollywood in a long time. Penned by Michael Green and Stuart Hazeldine (the former was a co-writer on "Green Lantern" along with creating "The River" for Spielberg on ABC; and the latter is behind the WB flick "Paradise Lost") the movie will tell the story of Moses from birth to death. In case you missed Bible class, this is the guy who saw the burning bush, delivered the ten commandments and parted the Red Sea among other things. He's been portrayed on the big screen countless times — most notably by Charlton Heston — but certainly not in a movie directed by someone like Spielberg.

We'd wager it's probably still very early days, particularly as Spielberg has his next two movies — "Lincoln" and "Robopocalypse" — already lined up, and he will probably want to toss this to another writer (or two) before committing. But it is an intriguing prospect, if only because a Spielberg backed movie is the only way we'd have any interest in this kind of subject matter besides fodder for post-holiday meal naps.
