Peak TV isn’t wasting a single moment in 2017. Just barely a week after you ring in the New Year, the first must-watch series will arrive with “Taboo,” giving Tom Hardy fans an entire series to watch the actor do his thing, and bite into what looks like a helluva role. And after countless teasers and trailers, the first real deal clip from the show has arrived with Hardy doing his bug-eyed best.
Penned by Steven Knight (“Peaky Blinders,” “Locke”), the show follows the wonderfully named James Keziah Delaney, who returns home from his adventures to the four corners of the world, to reclaim what’s his, and build an empire. And as you’ll see in the clip below, his fearsome legend precedes him. Here’s the synopsis for the series:
Set in 1814, Taboo follows James Keziah Delaney, a man who has been to the ends of the earth and comes back irrevocably changed. Believed to be long dead, he returns home to London from Africa to inherit what is left of his father’s shipping empire and rebuild a life for himself. But his father’s legacy is a poisoned chalice, and with enemies lurking in every dark corner, James must navigate increasingly complex territories to avoid his own death sentence. Encircled by conspiracy, murder, and betrayal, a dark family mystery unfolds in a combustible tale of love and treachery.
“Taboo” premieres January 7th on BBC One in the U.K. and January 10th on FX in the U.S. And we’re ready to dive headfirst into this one. [ScreenRant]
