New ‘Stranger Things’ Season 2 Trailer Returns To The Upside Down

Ever since Netflix’s Stranger Things” came out of nowhere a year ago to become a pop-culture sensation unlike any other of recent memory, an air of mystery has surrounded its upcoming sophomore season. With a release date of Halloween 2017, a chilling Super Bowl teaser, and cast members referring to season 2 as “a lot more dark [than season 1], a lot more horror-oriented,” you can rest assured that the ‘80s throwback series is indeed upping the ante in its impending return.

Series co-creator Matt Duffer has described the show’s second season as “not a second season as much as a sequel,” which certainly fits the series’ cinematic, Spielbergian aesthetic. As far as concrete plot detail goes, only one thing is absolutely, incontrovertibly certain: Barb, sadly, will remain very much dead. Here’s the official synopsis:

It’s 1984 and the citizens of Hawkins, Indiana are still reeling from the horrors of the demagorgon and the secrets of Hawkins Lab. Will Byers has been rescued from the Upside Down but a bigger, sinister entity still threatens those who survived.

“Stranger Things” stars Millie Bobby Brown as fan-favorite Eleven, David Harbour as Chief of Police Jim Hopper, and Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers. The series’ ensemble cast is rounded out by Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, and Natalia Dyer, with new additions Sean Astin and Will Chase joining the show for season 2. “Stranger Things” hits Netflix on October 27th.
