Here’s a couple of movies coming to the Sundance Film Festival, that snuck up on us by surprise — and both of them look quite promising.
First up is “The Discovery,” which brings together Jason Segel, Rooney Mara, Robert Redford, Jesse Plemons, Riley Keough and Ron Canada for Charlie McDowell‘s (“The One I Love“) sci-fi love story. If you can’t make it to Sundance, don’t worry — it’ll hit Netflix this spring. Here’s the synopsis:
A love story set in a world where the afterlife has been scientifically proven, and as a result millions of people start taking their own lives to “get there.”
Meanwhile, Luca Guadagnino (“A Bigger Splash,” the upcoming “Suspiria“) quietly shot “Call Me By Your Name” over the summer with Armie Hammer, Timothée Chalamet, Michael Stuhlbarg, Amira Casar, Esther Garrel, and Victoire Du Bois, with the film keeping its secrets close to the vest. Here’s the synopsis:
The sensitive and cultivated Elio, only child of the American-Italian-French Perlman family, is facing another lazy summer at his parents’ villa in the beautiful and languid Italian countryside when Oliver, an academic who has come to help with Elio’s father’s research, arrives.
The Sundance Film Festival runs from January 19-29, 2017.
