‘Superman: Legacy’: ‘Barry’ Star Anthony Carrigan Lands DC Hero Role Of Metamorpho

While James Gunn’sSuperman: Legacy” is ramping up casting and adding a lot of superheroes to the mix, the writer/director reassured fans on Threads yesterday that “The primary story most definitely revolves around Superman and Lois.”

Still, after yesterday, with the announcement of Nathan Fillion (“Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3”), as Green Lantern Corp hero Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi (“X-Men: First Class) as Mr. Terrific, and Isabela Merced (“Madame Web”), as Hawkgirl, fans can’t stop wondering if this is going to be a big superhero team-up movie rather than a solo Superman adventure.

Nevertheless, even if “Superman: Legacy” is a film that centers on Superman and Lois, it’s clear that Gunn won’t be afraid to introduce a lot of additional DC superheroes into the mix to at least let the audience know this universe is alive, thriving and doesn’t necessarily need to be built up piece by piece the way Marvel has introduced their characters.

Additionally, today THR adds that “Barry” star Anthony Carrigan has joined the ‘Legacy’ cast and will play the role of Metamorpho. In the comics, Metamorpho’s alter ego is Rex Mason, and he gains the ability to shapeshift and change himself into any element or combination of elements found in the human body. Metamorpho is generally a founding member of the Outsiders—a team that Batman lead at one point— and has joined multiple incarnations of the Justice League.

Lex Luthor is said to be the villain, potentially being played by one of the Skarsgård brothers, and these roles suggest, if they’re not major like Gunn hints at, that ‘Legacy’ will show a DC universe already populated with heroes. Still, they may not be the focus of the narrative. Still, that’s four new DC characters that have never been seen on screen before, and fans will at least appreciate the deep cuts Gunn is offering.

“Superman: Legacy opens two years from today,” Gunn said on Threads. “It may seem far away to many of you, but it’s close to me!” “We have a lot to do between now and then,” he added. “But I haven’t been more excited about a project in forever… and this cast, slowly coming together… holy cow…”

“Superman: Legacy” is scheduled to debut on July 11, 2025.
