It’s understood that James Gunn took inspiration from several iconic Superman stories for his screenplay. Including Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely’s ‘All-Star Superman,’ Mark Waid’s and Alex Ross’ ‘Kingdom Come,’ and Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale’s ‘Superman For All Seasons.’ As well as Max Fleischer’s animated films from the 1940s. The lack of clear information about the movie’s plot should not be too concerning. Based on James Gunn’s previous superhero output (“Guardians of the Galaxy” trilogy, ‘The Suicide Squad’), there’s a strong chance this newest adaptation—a film focused on the inherent goodness of Superman and his embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way—will be of high quality.
The movie stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent / Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., plus María Gabriela de Faría, Sara Sampaio, Terence Rosemore, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Neva Howell, Beck Bennett, Mikaela Hoover, Christopher McDonald, and Alan Tudyk.
“Superman” is written and directed by James Gunn. Lars P. Winther and Chantal Nong Vo are executive producers, while Peter Safran is the lead producer.
The movie will explore Superman’s journey from Krypton to Smallville, Kansas. Here’s the official synopsis:
