With the success of “Yellowstone” and basically everything else that Taylor Sheridan is working on, there is a clear desire for that down and dirty, country vibe project in Hollywood. Something that features dusty roads and guns. Well, it appears Tony Tost is ready to give us that with the upcoming film, “National Anthem.”
According to Deadline, Sydney Sweeney, Halsey, Paul Walter Hauser, Simon Rex, Toby Huss, Gavin Maddox Bergman, Harriet Sansom Harris, and Derek Hinkey have all joined the ensemble cast of the upcoming film, “National Anthem.” The film will serve as the directorial debut of Tony Tost, who is probably best known for being a writer-producer on series such as “Longmire,” “Damnation,” and “The Terror.” “National Anthem” is said to be about a group of people on the hunt for a valuable Lakota Native American Ghost Shirt, with some people only looking to cash in on the item, while others have more kind-hearted desires.

“I am truly honored to have the opportunity to bring National Anthem to life on film, and to work with Page Fifty-Four Pictures, Bron Studios and this incredible cast,” says Tost. “I’m especially thrilled to be bringing to the screen a vision of modern rural America that pays tribute to the myths of the West while also radically reinventing them.”
Sweeney is probably best known for her most recent work on the series “Euphoria” and “The White Lotus.” Hauser is the star of “Richard Jewell” and was recently seen in “Cruella.” Simon Rex broke out in a big way last year thanks to his role in “Red Rocket.” But perhaps the most intriguing cast member in the group is Halsey, who is a pop star with no real acting experience. “National Anthem” will mark her acting debut, though she has already been announced to star in a new series with Sweeney titled, “The Player’s Table.”
No release date is set for “National Anthem,” and it’s unclear when production will begin. However, this is a strong ensemble cast and it’ll be interesting to see how Tost fares in his directorial debut.
