While the DCU kicked off with “Creature Commandos” recently, that’s far from the only DC animated project that is going strong. In fact, we’re already bracing ourselves for Season 5 of “Harley Quinn.”

Yesterday, Margot Robbie made headlines when she was interviewed by Variety and was asked whether she would reprise her iconic role as DC anti-hero Harley Quinn in the upcoming DC Studios plan, given DC is mostly rebooting and reimagining their film universe. And frankly, her answer was pretty evasive. “I always wanted Harley to be a character that would get passed on to other actresses to play, the way there are so many iconic male characters.

Are there outstanding questions about the nature of James Gunn’s DC Studios and what characters are moving forward and which ones aren’t? It depends on who you ask. Gunn, who directed “The Suicide Squad,” has said in the past that Peacemaker (John Cena) and Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) are moving forward, and so is Xolo Maridueña  from “Blue Beetle.” But if you directed a ‘Suicide Squad’ movie and made a” Peacemaker” spin-off series from it, wouldn’t you want all the remaining members of the team to move forward to have consistency (especially since you cast and or worked with all of them once already?)

One would argue that’s one of the sticking points some fans have with Gunn’s DCU moving forward, and perhaps chiefly, is Margot Robbie going to continue as Harley Quinn in the DC Studios universe?

To say that the DC franchise as a whole has had a troubled history translating its characters to the big screen would be an understatement. Though DC characters in live-action and animation have certainly had their gems in the realms of film and tv, the most recent crop of live-action DC movies have been divisive money-makers, prompting a disjointed and generally disappointing answer to Marvel’s competing MCU. Somehow, in the midst of all the live-action chaos, DC’s strongest, most consistently well-review series slips by, vastly unnoticed, and it’s returned for a third – no less raunchy and no less outstanding – season: DC’s “Harley Quinn.”

Starring “The Big Bang Theory” ex-pat Kaley Cuoco (the titular Harley Quinn) and Lake Bell (as Harley’s will-they-won’t-they best friend/girlfriend Poison Ivy), the series follows the outlandish, borderline psychotic ex-psychiatrist as she struggles to make a name for herself as an independent supervillain after a split from the joker and a stint in Arkham.

Legendary DC villain Harley Quinn is back on our screens with Season 3 of the adult-animated comedy “Harley Quinn” series.

Originally created as a sidekick to the Joker, Harley made her first debut in “Batman: The Animated Series” and quickly grew to stardom. Now, Quinn stars in multiple animated projects, comics, and even Hollywood blockbusters like “Birds of Prey” and James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad.” “Harley Quinn” was developed by Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker, and Dean Lorey.

With the release of “The Suicide Squad” on the horizon, James Gunn looks to be batting successfully for both of comic books’ ‘Big Two,’ having made two “Guardians of the Galaxy” films (with an upcoming third) for Marvel Studios, and now a sequel to Warner Bros and DC Comics’ “Suicide Squad,” which seemed to take cues from Gunn’s sci-fi megahit.

Clark Kent and Lois Lane. Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson. Tony Stark and Pepper Potts. Batman and…Alfred? The world of superheroes is filled with iconic love affairs. However, one of the more under-the-radar, fan-favorite pairings that have existed in the comics and on TV but have yet to grace live-action is the relationship between Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy. The duo is a fairly recent addition to the hallowed halls of comic book romance, but fans absolutely adore the pairing of the two sometimes-villains in the DC universe.

By and large, the DC Universe streaming series hasn’t had the massive footprint in the streaming consciousness of people that WarnerMedia hoped it would. Sure, the diehard comic book fans are probably paying the premium to watch new episodes of TV series such as “Titans” and “Stargirl,” but for the most part, the initial intrigue into what DC Universe might be has died down.

The struggle has been real for those at Warner Bros./DC Films, as their films have never been able to replicate the massive success that their rivals Marvel have been able to do over the past decade. However after the release of “Joker,” things may be looking up for the crazier side of the DC universe. And that’s where “Birds Of Prey” fits in.

With DC’s upcoming live-action film, “Birds of Prey,” hitting theaters early next year, Harley Quinn fans won’t have much longer to wait until they see their favorite anti-heroine onscreen once again. In the meantime, DC Universe debuted the first look at their first original animated series, “Harley Quinn.” Similar to the upcoming live-action film, the series follows Harley (voiced by Kaley Cuoco) after she breaks up with the Joker (Alan Tudyk) in an attempt to forge her own path as a supervillain.

In the mood for some mayhem? Margot Robbie and Warner Bros. may have you covered with “Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn),” also known as “BOP: Harley Quinn.” WB and DC Films have had a rough couple of years. For every win, critical and financial (“Wonder Woman“) they had another loss (“Justice League“) that added to the negative narrated that started out of the gate with “Batman V.

Almost exactly four years ago, Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara revealed an incredibly ambitious slate of films for the new DC Extended Universe. Ten films in total, the list of films began with 2016’s “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” and charted a four-year path that would end in 2020 with a “Cyborg” solo film, starring Ray Fisher. With only “Man of Steel” released at the time, many people saw this slate and were concerned that WB/DC was being too ambitious.

One can be forgiven if they’re deeply confused as to what the hell is going on over at Warner Bros. and DC Films. The company’s Superman is likely leaving, their Batman is already (essentially) gone, and they’re shooting a new Joker movie different from the one introduced within the DCEU less than two years ago (got that?). It’s almost as if someone doesn’t understand coherent branding strategies over at these companies.

So yes, “The Joker,” starring Joaquin Phoenix and directed by Todd Phillips (“The Hangover” trilogy) is shooting now.

Margot Robbie is making the rounds right now supporting her new film “Terminal” (read our review), and as expected, people are asking the actress about her biggest role as Harley Quinn in the DC film universe. As we reported a while ago, Harley will be the focus of the upcoming team-up film directed by Cathy Yan and written by Christina Hodson.

This is far from controversial to say, but “Suicide Squad” is just a bad movie. Plain and simple. However, there’s no denying that one (and maybe the only) bright spot in the film was the performance of Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. And since the film’s release, fans have been clamoring to know when they’ll get to see more of the bat-wielding, crazy anti-hero.

I can’t imagine working at DC Films, and trying to sort to sort through all the projects they have moving in various stages in development. In must be a Kafka-esque experience, especially as the temperate at the company seems to change every day (and usually, getting cooler). But if one thing has become clear, everyone really loves Margot Robbie‘s portrayal of Harley Quinn in “Suicide Squad.”

Since the release of David Ayer‘s mess, we’re heard various chatter about “Suicide Squad 2,” “Gotham City Sirens,” and a standalone movie with Jared Leto‘s Joker and Harley Quinn.

What.is.going.on over at DC Films and Warner Bros? The film industry is suffering from whiplash in the last 24 hours thanks to schizophrenic news coming out of Warner Bros.’ DCEU. First up, you’ve got a spin-off origin Joker film announced last night coming from producer Martin Scorsese and director Todd Phillips, and it was meant to live outside of the current DC Films continuity; yes, this would be a new Joker not played by Jared Leto but possibly someone much younger.

It seems as if audiences area going to get a lot of Harley Quinn in the DC Extended Universe. While critical reception to “Suicide Squad” was mixed, to say the least, Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn was a clear standout, and Warner Bros. was quick to announce a pair of films that feature the character. The first was the obvious “Suicide Squad” sequel, rumored to be directed by Jaume Collet-Serra.

Warner Bros. has few silver linings to grasp onto at the moment when it comes to their wobbly launch of the DC Films universe. Sure, “Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice” and “Suicide Squad” may have decent box office numbers on paper (though let’s not forget the budgets for both pictures were stratospheric), but in terms of leaving the kind of vote of confidence Marvel has with their movies, the studio has a long way to go.

There are a couple things Warner Bros. knows about their current slate of DC Comics movies: 1) No one really liked “Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice,” which has yet to clear $900 million worldwide, even though “Captain America: Civil War” will likely hit $1 billion in less time and 2) Everybody is already in love with Margot Robbie‘s Harley Quinn in “Suicide Squad.” So, the thinking at WB logically follows: “What if we made a movie around her?”

Well, that’s what they’re going to do.
