Rumor: A ‘Harley Quinn Vs The Joker’ Spin-Off Film In The Works

It seems as if audiences area going to get a lot of Harley Quinn in the DC Extended Universe. While critical reception to “Suicide Squad” was mixed, to say the least, Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn was a clear standout, and Warner Bros. was quick to announce a pair of films that feature the character. The first was the obvious “Suicide Squad” sequel, rumored to be directed by Jaume Collet-Serra. The other film is David Ayer’sGotham City Sirens,” which would put Harley Quinn front and center surrounded by other female Batman characters. Now, Screen Rant is reporting there’s a third film coming with Robbie’s Harley leading the way.

Harley Quinn vs The Joker” is currently in the works at Warner Bros., per the publications’s report. They say that both Robbie and Jared Leto are attached to return as Harley and the Joker, respectively. There’s no word yet on any writers or director, but DC Films head Geoff Johns is set to produce, which is to be expected. For those that don’t know, Harley Quinn and the Joker have a bit of history in DC Comics lore. Joker is responsible for turning psychologist Dr. Harleen Quinzel into Harley Quinn after a bit of mental torture. Now, she’s just as crazy as the Clown Prince of Crime and deeply in love with him. So, pitting them against each other is a very interesting move, though to be fair, a lot of this backstory was already shown in “Suicide Squad.”

With Warner Bros. expected to take the stage at Comic-Con on Saturday to talk about their upcoming slate of DC films, we’ll certainly find out about the legitimacy of this report. Odds are, since this news seems to be in the very early stages, and there are already a large amount of DCEU films in various states of production, “Harley Quinn vs The Joker” might not be coming for a while. However, both Leto’s Joker and Robbie’s Harley Quinn were standouts from “Suicide Squad,” and WB/DC might actually put this film on the fast track to capitalize on that popularity.

Honestly, with all the turbulence surrounding DCEU films (even before the recent seismic Ben Affleck news), what Warner Bros. has up their sleeve for Saturday’s panel is anyone’s guess. That being said, it’s a safe assumption that all eyes will be on Hall H to see the circus.
