The Deadites have never been especially respectful of family boundaries, and “Evil Dead Burn” appears to be pushing that idea into a new domestic nightmare. The film is being billed as the third standalone entry in the modern era of the “Evil Dead” franchise, following 2013’s “Evil Dead” and “Evil Dead Rise,” with a new director, new characters, and another unlucky group discovering that some books are better left closed.

Not to be confused with Universal Pictures’ films or their iconic landmark installment from 1932, a new iteration of “The Mummy” hails from director Lee Cronin (“Evil Dead Rise”) and Blumhouse (known for their attempts in the past to reboot Universal’s horror library), and is heading to theaters next month thanks to Warner Bros./New Line Cinema.

With tickets now on sale, the studio has dropped what is likely one of the final trailers for Cornin’s new horror pic that attempts a bit of a twist than what we’ve seen with the previous versions that had skewed more in the action-adventure realm.

Some horror myths don’t need modernizing so much as they need stripping back to the raw nerve—and Lee Cronin (“Evil Dead Rise”) looks to be doing exactly that with “Lee Cronin’s The Mummy,” which just unveiled its official trailer ahead of a spring theatrical run.

On the heels of the first-look trailer just unleashed, Blumhouse and New Line Cinema have teamed up for another attempt at reinventing a classic movie monster with “The Mummy” from director Lee Cronin (“Evil Dead Rises”). The film’s director has a compelling elevator pitch for horror audiences, stating that the new movie is a mix of Tobe Hooper’s “Poltergeist” and David Fincher’s moody serial killer thriller, “Seven.”

Cornin spoke with the folks over at IGN, where he declared his admiration for Steven Spielberg/Amblin movies, and also discussed which films he believed “The Mummy” is comparable to.

Lee Cronin’s upcoming “The Mummy” is the latest attempt to revive a franchise that hasn’t truly connected with audiences since the Brendan Fraser-led “The Mummy” trilogy ended with 2008’s “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.” Universal Pictures tried again in 2017 with Tom Cruise’s “The Mummy,” meant to launch “The Dark Universe” with new spins on monsters like Frankenstein, Dr.

The reviews are in from the world premiere of Lee Cronin‘s “Evil Dead Rise” at SXSW 2023 last month. And the verdict? Pretty solid all around (although The Playlist’s review didn’t match the consensus). But now it’s time for the general audience to have their say as the film hits theaters later this month.

Lee Cronin’s “Evil Dead Rise” calls to mind those items we used to read before every “Die Hard” sequel, about how each had begun its life as a completely different story having nothing to do with “Die Hard” that was hastily re-written into another John McClane movie. That is not, as far as I know, the origin story of this “Evil Dead” sequel. But I wouldn’t be surprised to find it began its life as an entirely unrelated tale of a dysfunctional family fighting an evil force in a condemned apartment building before writers threw in a Book of the Dead and a chainsaw to help fill the opening weekend tills and keep the “Evil Dead” IP alive.

While the original trilogy of Sam Raimi’s horror film franchise “Evil Dead”— “The Evil Dead” (1981), “Evil Dead II” (1987), and “Army of Darkness” (1992)—rocks, most of the attempts to resurrect the film have been primarily non-starters. Granted, there’s only been one film since, Fede Álvarez‘s “Evil Dead” (2013), and there was also the series “Ash vs.

Not to carp on about it, but the new wave of indie arthouse horror, but has really tapped into something primal in our culture. Using formal rigor and a kind of patience that’s the opposite of jump scares, this new movement is bound by its collective desire to use atmospherics to unsettle us emotionally and psychological on a much deeper level.
