Got a Tip?

Taron Egerton Says He Was Never In The Running For James Bond & Thinks Producers Have Already Picked The Next 007

We’ve literally been talking about who is going to replace Daniel Craig as James Bond in the film franchise for years now. Ever since it was announced that Craig was going to leave the role after last year’s “No Time to Die,” fans have been desperately trying to figure out who Barbara Broccoli and the other producers of the franchise would choose to carry the mantle as 007. Well, according to Taron Egerton, it’s not going to be him. In fact, he thinks the choice has already been made.

Speaking to Total Film, Taron Egerton talked about his upcoming film, “Tetris,” and he was also asked about the rumors that he’s in the running to become the new James Bond. The actor, who is probably best known for his own super spy franchise, “The Kingsman” (arguably a satire of the 007 films), explained that he’s never been involved in any discussions about taking over the role.

“Yeah. I mean, I think they’ve already got someone, and it’s not me,” Egerton said. “I mean, I’ve never been a part of the conversations. I’ve never met the Broccolis. They’ve never inquired about me. I’ve just never been one of the guys that they’re looking at. I just don’t think I’m the right person for that. I think there’s much, much, much better candidates for that role than me. But, you know, I’d be a very willing audience member. They’re brilliant films.”

Egerton has consistently been named as one of the candidates for the James Bond role. However, in recent months, the reports have been pointing to Aaron Taylor-Johnson as leading the way. He’s been confirmed to have talked to Barbara Broccoli and folks involved with the franchise, which is more than can be said about pretty much every other rumored name. Other folks who have been brought up have been Henry Cavill, Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, Tom Holland, and Regé-Jean Page. But it’s hard to know which is just fan speculation and which are actually, like Taylor-Johnson, seriously in the running.

It’s unclear when we might hear any news about whoever will be the next James Bond. There hasn’t been any hint as to a new 007 in development, though it’s assumed something is being worked on. But many people are assuming we’ll hear casting news sometime this year.
