Thirty years ago this week, "Back To The Future" blasted into cinemas, and it has since remained one of the most beloved franchises of all time. In this era of reboots, remakes and reworked sequels, it’s remarkable that Universal and Steven Spielberg‘s Amblin Entertainment haven’t attempted to find another way to tackle the time-traveling story of Marty McFly. Well, as long director Robert Zemeckis is around, it’s not going to happen.
“Oh, God no,” he told The Telegraph at the mere mention of the idea. “That can’t happen until both [co-writer] Bob [Gale] and I are dead. And then I’m sure they’ll do it, unless there’s a way our estates can stop it."

Wisely, Zemeckis and Gale inked contracts back in the day that gives the pair approval over any such movies so long as they are alive, and certainly the 63 year-old filmmaker has lots of years left in him, so you can rest assured the legacy of ‘BTTF’ won’t be tinkered with for a long time yet.
“I mean, to me, that’s outrageous. Especially since it’s a good movie. It’s like saying ‘Let’s remake "Citizen Kane."’ ‘Who are we going to get to play Kane?’ What folly, what insanity is that? Why would anyone do that?” Zemeckis exclaimed.
To answer, Zemeckis, because they can. But luckily for him, he won’t live to see the day his franchise is inevitably ruined.
