Love is always hard to find, but as two body-snatching aliens find out in “The Becomers,” it may be even more difficult to keep in modern-day America. The latest film from “Little Sister” director Zach Clark explores the zeitgeist of the past five years in a twisty tale of two alien love-birds freshly arrived on Earth who try to make things work in their new host bodies. But in these times, that’s easier said than done…
Fresh off a successful festival run, Clark’s fifth feature is a twisty trip through contemporary America hits theaters later this month. Read on for an official synopsis for “The Becomers,” courtesy of Dark Star Pictures:
Forced to flee their dying planet, two body-snatching alien lovers arrive separately on Earth. Determined to find each other, the aliens jump from body to body, but they quickly learn that it’s not easy to inhabit their new, fleshy hosts, and that life in modern-day America is more complicated than they could have ever imagined.
“The Becomers” stars Molly Plunk, Mike Lopez, Keith Kelly, Isabel Alamin, and Frank V. Ross. Also of note: Sparks lead singer Russell Mael provides narration for the film.
Clark writes and directs “The Becomers,” which he shot in Chicago last year. Joe Swanberg leads producers on “The Becomers” with Eric Ashworth, and Eddie Linker also produces through Slasher Film Company. Fritz Myers composes the film’s original score, while Daryl Pittman serves as its director of photography.
“The Becomers” had its world premiere at the 2023 Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal last year, followed by its US premiere at Beyond Fest and a European premiere at Leeds International Film Festival. Critical response has been strong out the film’s initial festival run, and it currently holds an 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Good news, NYC/LA residents: “The Becomers” hits select theaters in both cities later this month. The film opens in NYC on August 23 at Cinema Village, then at Lumiere Music Hall in LA on August 30. After that, “The Becomers” hits Chicago at Music Box Theatre on September 13. The film then hits VOD on September 24.
