‘The Beekeeper 2’: Jason Statham Returns For Miramax’s Sequel, Timo Tjahjanto To Direct

Indonesian action director Timo Tjahjanto‘s stateside work won’t end with Nobody 2.” Deadline reports that the man behind last year’s “The Shadow Strays” will also helm the upcoming “The Beekeeper 2” at Miramax. Tjahjanto will direct the returning Jason Statham in the sequel to David Ayer‘s 2024 hit, which raked in nearly $153 million worldwide during its theatrical run last January.

It comes with little surprise that Ayer won’t be back for “The Beekeeper 2,” as he’s busy with The Heart Of The Beast” with Brad Pitt over at Paramount. But Tjahjanto is a more than worthy replacement in the director’s chair. Tjahjanto made his bones as a director on shorts for stuff like “The ABCs Of Death” and the “V/H/S/” series before breaking out with 2018’s “The Night Comes For Us.” Since then, he’s had hits like “The Big Four” and “The Shadow Strays,” with Netflix releasing both on their streamer.

Shooting should star on “The Beekeeper 2” after Tjahjanto wraps work on “Nobody 2,” which hits theaters this August.  No word yet on if Amazon MGM Studios will handle the sequels’ release like they did for Ayer’s 2024 film, but it’s likely.  A fall shoot also means the planned third film in Tjahjanto’s “May The Devil Take You” horror series must wait for the time being, too.

Statham produces “The Beekeeper 2” along with returning for the lead role.  Chris Long also produces via his Long Shot Productions banner. For those who didn’t catch the first “Beekeeper” film, it stars Statham as a retired secret intelligence operative who sets out on a personal mission to seek revenge against the crooks behind a phishing scam network that led the death of his landlady. The plot also deals with a corrupt presidency, unhinged mercenaries tasked with taking down the seemingly invincible Statham, and an out-of-place Jeremy Irons chewing scenery; it’s true January studio fodder.

So when should fans expect “The Beekeeper 2” in theaters? A January 2026 release sounds likely. Miramax will likely expedite the film’s theatrical run over other upcoming film’s like “Roofman” and “4 Kids Walk Into A Bank” because the 2024 film was a moneymaker. Besides, other stuff on Marimax’s calendar, like the “Scary Movie” reboot and “Scandalous,” Colman Domingo‘s film starring Sydney Sweeney and David Jonsson, will undoubtedly get cushier opening weekend slots.

Stay tuned for additional casting news for “The Beekeeper 2” as it approaches production.
