'The Boogeyman' Trailer: Stephen King's Short Story Gets A Film Adaptation From The Director Of 'Host'

Perhaps the most classic monster in all of humanity is the Boogeyman. Taking various forms in pop culture, the Boogeyman is just the name given to almost anything that goes bump in the night. The thing that comes after little children when the lights come out. The monster under the bed. Well, the mythology grows in the upcoming film, “The Boogeyman.”

Based on a short story by Stephen King, “The Boogeyman” tells the story of a young girl and her older sister, who are both haunted by the titular villain. All that is revealed in the trailer is that the Boogeyman is the monster that comes after children when the parents aren’t paying attention.

The film stars Sophie Thatcher (“Yellowjackets”), Chris Messina (“Air”), Vivien Lyra Blair (“Obi-Wan Kenobi”), Marin Ireland (“The Umbrella Academy”), Madison Hu (“Bizaardvark”), LisaGay Hamilton (“Vice”), and David Dastmalchian (“Boston Strangler”). The film is directed by Rob Savage, who is best known for his pandemic horror hit, “Host.” 

“’The Boogeyman’ is a classic horror movie in the mold of ‘Poltergeist’ that has scares and heart in equal measure,” said Savage. “I vividly remember the terror I felt reading King’s short story as a kid, and it’s this feeling of childhood fear that I wanted to inspire in cinema audiences around the world. Here’s the synopsis:

High school student Sadie Harper and her younger sister Sawyer are reeling from the recent death of their mother and aren’t getting much support from their father, Will, a therapist who is dealing with his own pain. When a desperate patient unexpectedly shows up at their home seeking help, he leaves behind a terrifying supernatural entity that preys on families and feeds on the suffering of its victims.
