'The Bourne Legacy' Unveils New Photos, TV Spot & Comic-Con Throwback Poster

Do studios need Comic-Con? The answer is a mix of both yes, no and maybe, but clearly Universal Pictures is less thrilled with the convention this year, perhaps due to the lukewarm reception to "Cowboys & Aliens" last year (even the geek constituents reviewed it poorly during the festival) and "Scott Pilgrim. vs. the World," which went over like gangbusters in 2010, but then was met with a lot of indifference to non-geeks. Whatever the case may be, Universal is by and large sitting out Comic-Con this year and their biggest tentpole of the summer, "The Bourne Legacy," won't be showing itself off at the nerd jubilee.

Confidence or just not the exact right crowd? Either way, Universal has made a small overture during Comic-Con and released a type of old school, throwback poster from Galleries Ninteen Eighy Eight. Along with that atypical piece of marketing, a new extended TV trailer has arrived and some more photos via the recent issue of Empire.

One of our most anticipated films of the summer bar "The Dark Knight Rises," "The Bourne Legacy" will eschew the Jason Bourne story/character played by Matt Damon, and instead looks at the satelite CIA programs that are affected by the events that take place at the end of "The Bourne Ultimatum." Written and directed by Tony Gilroy ("Michael Clayton"), the architect and writer of the original 'Bourne' trilogy, and starring Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Albert Finney, Joan Allen, Stacy Keach, Oscar Isaac, Scott Glenn and more, "The Bourne Legacy" hits theaters August 10th.
