Got a Tip?

‘The Boys: Mexico’: Prime Video Spinning Off ‘The Boys’ With The Help Of Diego Luna & Gael García Bernal

As we have recently said goodbye to Season 1 of “Gen V” and are approaching Season 4 of “The Boys,” it’s obvious that Prime Video’s superhero franchise is stronger than ever before. So, the studio is doing what every Hollywood studio would do with a surprise hit franchise under its belt—expansion. This time, though, “The Boys” is going international.

According to Deadline, Prime Video is currently developing a spinoff of “The Boys” that will take place in Mexico, currently featuring the absolutely genius and inspiring title, “The Boys: Mexico.” the series comes from showrunner and writer Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, the writer of the 2023 superhero film, “Blue Beetle,” and counts Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal amongst its executive producers. In fact, not only are Luna and Bernal attached to produce, but it’s being reported the actors will perhaps even show up with roles in the series, though they’re expected to be more supporting characters.

For those not familiar with “The Boys,” the franchise exists in a universe where superheroes are very much real, but they’re all run by a mega-corporation named Vought. Imagine a world where Disney actually owns the real Avengers and still exploits the shit out of them in TV shows, movies, and public appearances. Except these heroes are only good guys in front of the public eye, and behind the scenes, they’re basically monsters who will do anything to get ahead. “Gen V” showed us a new side of the franchise, focusing on a college used to train young superheroes. And now, presumably, we’ll see the international side of things as we are introduced to Mexican heroes.

The actual plot of the spinoff is still being kept under wraps, but we’re going to go out on a limb and say that it will feature some horribly self-centered heroes who have no qualms hurting humans and screwing over each other to gain more fame. And there will likely be those who stand against them, hoping to expose their evils. You know, the basic ‘Boys’ formula.

That said, even though you can probably predict the general idea of the spinoff, it’s safe to assume “The Boys: Mexico” will shock and surprise viewers. If there is one thing “The Boys” does well, it’s flip the script just when you think you know what is going to happen.
