WandaVision and Drag Race Lead MTV Movie And TV Awards Nods

People are getting vaccinated, movie theaters are reopening and Oscar season is almost mercifully over. Yes, it’s time for the MTV Movie and TV Awards to return. After a 2020 pandemic-affected hiatus, Viacom’s own version of a synergistic people’s choice awards have announced their nominations and…wait, a minute. Some of these are actually…inspired?

Sure, the event has gone a little too crazy with a slew of new reality-focused honors, and partially mixing the television and movie categories is a mess, but “The Boys” with 4 nominations? Recognition for Michaela Coel in “I May Destroy You” and Emma Corrin in “The Crown”? And an international reality category that recognizes the marvel that is “RuPaul’s Drag Race UK”? O.K., MTV. We see you. You’re trying at least!

Overall, “WandaVision” lead all “narrative” content with five nominations, “Emily in Paris” and “The Boys” earned four each, “Bridgerton,” “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan” and “The Mandalorian” took three each. On the Reality, er “Unscripted” side, “RuPaul’s Drag Race” earned four nominations, while “90 Day Fiancé,” “Bling Empire,” “Legendary,” “Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta,” “Nailed It!,” “Ridiculousness,” and “The Challenge” took two each.

There is, however, a twist this year. The 2021 MTV Movie And TV Awards telecast will air live on Sunday, May 16 from the Palladium in Los Angeles at 9 PM ET/PT. The next day, Monday, May 17, MTV will air the inaugural “Movie & TV Awards: UNSCRIPTED” on Monday, at 9 PM ET/PT. Lots of awards. Two nights. More room for commercials. Makes sense.

Viewers can vote for all the awards here until April 30.

All of this year’s nominees are as follows:
