…and just like that, they've got to start over. Just a couple weeks after news first arrived that Lily Collins landed the lead in the Sam Raimi-produced, Diablo Cody-spruced-up "The Evil Dead" remake, she's left the project.
Variety's Jeff Sneider tweeted the news this afternoon, saying, "…in case you missed it, LILY COLLINS is OUT of THE EVIL DEAD reboot due to a scheduling issue. Agents, start your engines…" No word yet on what those conflicts exactly are, but perhaps it has to do with the "The Mortal Instruments," a project we haven't heard about in nearly a year, when Jamie Campbell Bower won the male lead. Could it be gearing up again now that Collins is freed from her "Mirror Mirror" duties? Or does she have something else on the table? Guess we'll soon see.
Regardless, the filmmakers will need to find someone soon. The Fede Alvarez-directed film is just over a year away from landing in theaters, with an April 12, 2013 release date pegged for the movie. Expectations are very cautious, yet high, so we'll be curious to see who swaps in now.
