Nothing says scary like Halloween spring? Well, away from the usual logjam of horror schlock that fills up the mulitplexes every October, Sony is hoping people will be in the mood to get scared, as Blood Digusting report they're gonna drop the movie in theaters on April 12, 2013.
Being so far away, nothing else is slated that weekend yet, but it's an indicator that the studio is hoping for a big spring yet. The remake of Sam Raimi's cult film — produced by Raimi himself — has hyped newcomer Fede Alvarez, best known for his short "Panic Attack!" making his feature debut with the film, and none other than Oscar winning "Juno" writer Diablo Cody having taken her pen the screenplay. No cast has been announced just yet. The film will shoot next year, witih rumors of the production moving to New Zealand, but moreover, it appears this is going to be straightfaced, seriously scary take on the story. There will be no quipping, winking Ash here. Moviehole got some seriously spoilerish plot details which you can read over there, with a tone they say is in line with "The Shining." Take it with a grain of salt. They also say the gore will be gruesome, not unlike "Hellraiser" or "Cabin Fever." Intriguing, to be sure.
Good idea or not, this is happening, but at least the filmmakers seem to be trying something new with the story. Whether or not it works, remains to be seen.
