This summer sees Marvel Studios‘ first massive superhero reboot attempt since relaunching “Spider-Man” in 2016 as they’ll be giving us a new retro-futuristic Multiverse version of Marvel’s first family, “The Fantastic Four.”
Paul Walter Hauser (“Black Bird”) is part of “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” cast and is now making quite the sales pitch for the Matt Shakman-directed (“WandaVision”) pic while speaking with The Direct, suggesting that it’ll be “the Marvel movie of the year” (“Thunderbolts*” is coming out in May) along with comparing it to the likes of landmark MCU films “Black Panther” and “Guardians of The Galaxy.”
“So, I think our movie, ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps,’ to me, only speaking from my opinion, everything I witnessed and took part in, everything I felt while in the presence of the creatives on the film, I believe we are the Marvel movie of the year. I believe we are the one to watch.”
“And I believe that this will go down in history as one of the ones that started a new tide of successful storytelling for the company. Sort of in the same way the ‘Guardians of The Galaxy,’ and ‘Black Panther’ hit. They both hit in a certain way, I believe we are about to hit,” Hauser said while alluding to “Fantastic Four” becoming quite the crowd-pleaser and getting Marvel Studios back on track after a handful of box office hiccups.
We’re still waiting for Marvel and Hauser to reveal who the actor is playing in the reboot, although there had been some online rumblings in the past that he could be playing a version of Harvey Elder (Mole Man). Some might remember that Tim Blake Nelson (recently revived The Leader role in “Captain America: Brave New World”) played Harvey in Josh Trank‘s reboot attempt before the film was altered in reshoots and Mole Man was nixed.
The rest of the names on the call-sheet include Pedro Pascal as Dr. Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, Ralph Ineson as the mighty Galactus, and Julia Garner as the Shalla-Bal version of Silver Surfer. Others in the film are John Malkovich, Natasha Lyonne, and Sarah Niles.
“The Fantastic Four: First Steps” will grace theaters on July 25, and we’ll likely learn how the film leads into the events of “Avengers: Doomsday” as characters from it are said to be showing up in that event helmed by The Russo Brothers.
