‘The Greatest Love Story Never Told’ Trailer: Jennifer Lopez Gets Meta About Her Own Life In New Personal Quasi-Doc

You kinda have to love the Jennifer Lopez/Ben Affleck marriage and relationship. One is a pop superstar who craves the spotlight, and the other is an actor/director who had his fill of fame in the ’90s and seemingly craves his own privacy. Their love seems genuine, authentic, and real, but their outlooks on things seem very different. Lopez is about to unveil her new documentary, “The Greatest Love Story Never Told,” a self-financed $20 million three-part multimedia project that examines Lopez’s life as a serial romantic. Part of it is an album, This Is Me… Now, part of it is this doc, and part is her other doc, “This Is Me… Now.

And it’s very meta with Lopez examining her own life, love, and everything and putting it in a documentary for all to see. Check out this biting excerpt from a Variety piece where Affleck seems pretty annoyed how Lopez is exposing their relationship in her documentary by using his private love-letters without telling him.

Lopez then invited musicians over to the house, and, for inspiration, showed them a stash of letters Affleck had written her, which he’d titled “The Greatest Love Story Never Told.” In the documentary, Affleck comes into the room and seems taken aback when he sees his letters being bandied about. He says to the camera, “I did really find the beauty and the poetry and the irony in the fact that it’s the greatest love story never told. If you’re making a record about it, that seems kind of like telling it.”

Here’s another excerpt that shows his begrudging reluctance to be involved in this TMI affair.

This time, Lopez is turning the tables and seems intent on sharing every shred of their love while Affleck grudgingly follows along. (In the documentary, Affleck says, “Things that are private I always felt are sacred and special because, in part, they’re private.” He then delivers an understatement: “So this was something of an adjustment for me.”)

Good sport, I guess, right? Directed by Jason Bergh and produced by Affleck and Matt Damon’s Artist Equity company, “The Greatest Love Story” never told offers unflinching access to Jennifer’s most personal moments as she works hard to reclaim her narrative through the making of This Is Me…Now.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Directed by Jason Bergh, The Greatest Love Story Never Told follows Jennifer Lopez as she attempts her most daring project yet: independently producing a new album and cinematic original that explore her twenty-year journey to self-love. Intimate and empowering, the documentary offers unflinching access to Jennifer’s most personal moments as she works hard to reclaim her narrative through the making of This Is Me…Now. From interviews with her inner circle, including producing partners and longtime collaborators, to candid home moments, this is a vulnerable portrait of an icon who put it all on the line and discovered a newfound determination in self-acceptance and love.

Today, Amazon MGM Studios shared the official trailer, “The Greatest Love Story Never Told,” which will be available to stream on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide on February 27.
