Got a Tip?

The Guardian Names ‘Under The Skin’ The Best Film Of 2014 Plus Year-End Lists From Manohla Dargis & IMDB CEO Col Needham

Under The SkinWe’re halfway through December, and if you haven’t started amending your must-see list of movies to account for Best Of The Year films being named left and right, now’s the time. And today comes a few more, so start looking at local listings and figure out how to make the best use of your time off this holiday season.

First up, The Guardian — after revealing each ranking one day at time — has finally nailed down their top ten films of the year and they’ve joined us as one of the few putting Jonathan Glazer‘s exceptional "Under The Skin" at the top of the list. Peter Bradshaw praises the movie, declaring that it’s "just so visually free and uninhibited that there is an intense dark, destructive sexiness in everything about it – quite apart from the hilarious, bizarre, mesmeric eroticism of the film itself. It is a work of subcutaneous potency. It gets under your skin." And we couldn’t have said it better ourselves.

Meanwhile over at The New York Times, Manohla Dargis doesn’t really commit to a top ten so much as list the films "that meant most" to her, but "Beyond The Lights" starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw gets the most of her attention. Indeed, it’s the only movie that receives a very lengthy, full write up, with Dargis calling it "one of the most pleasurable moviegoing experiences I had this year."

Lastly, Col Needham, founder and CEO of IMDB places Christopher Nolan‘s "Interstellar" ranking right up top. "Ambitious on a galactic level (literally) this film delivers and delivers. Just when you think it cannot get any more thrilling or any more bold, it steps up the game," he writes.
