'The Killer': Nathalie Emmanuel To Star Opposite Omar Sy In John Woo's Remake Of His 1989 Classic

Last year, it was announced that John Woo was actually ready to direct a remake of his classic Hong Kong action film, “The Killer.” Well, not only is that still happening, but we now know the two leads that will star in the film.

According to Deadline, Nathalie Emmanuel and Omar Sy are set to star opposite each other in John Woo’s upcoming “The Killer” remake. It’s unclear how much of the remake will stick close to the original, but Woo’s 1989 original version follows the story of a, well, killer who takes one more assassin assignment to help pay for the surgery for a singer who he blinded. If they stick to that story, it wouldn’t be all that difficult to guess which roles Emmanuel and Sy would occupy.

Sy is probably best known for film work that includes “Intouchables” as well as “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” More recently, he stars as the title character in the “Lupin” TV series. Emmanuel is known for her supporting role in “Game of Thrones,” where she shared the screen often with Emilia Clarke. She is also a fixture in the “Fast & Furious” franchise. And as if that wasn’t enough, she is also set to star in Francis Ford Coppola’s massive indie film, “Megalopolis.”

It’s unclear when filming will begin on “The Killer.” When it was announced as a Peacock Original film, the messaging made it seem like the film would debut in 2023. However, if filming has yet to begin, it seems unlikely that will be the case. Either way, we’re still interested to see Woo take on the remake of his classic film decades later.
