There’s no denying that 2023’s “Skinamarink” is one of the most original horror films to be released in a long time. The film plays out in a way unlike any other major release. It’s experimental, creepy, and incredibly well-made by filmmaker Kyle Edward Ball. Now, let’s see what the filmmaker has up his sleeve for a follow up.
According to Variety, Kyle Edward Ball is set to direct a new feature titled “The Land of Nod.” No plot details are given at this time, but it will be released by A24. The big question now is whether or not Ball keeps with his experimental filmmaking style for his next studio film or if he goes with something a bit more conventional.
Released in 2023, “Skinamarink” is a film about children who are alone in a house and haunted by… something. Just giving a plot synopsis is actually not really in service of the film. The plot really is almost secondary to the vibes the film gives. There is hardly any dialogue and no actors are actually shown in the film. Instead, it’s all about the haunting imagery delivered by Ball.

Ball got his start as a filmmaker on YouTube, where he would make a variety of scary short films for his subscribers. Eventually, he pulled together $15,000 and made “Skinamarink.” Eventually, after solid festival appearances, the film was picked up by IFC Films and Shudder and given a full release. The film would go on to earn more than $2 million at the box office.
There’s no release date yet for “The Land of Nod,” but you better believe we’ll be keeping an eye on it.
