Eight years ago, a clever marketing campaign lured audiences to the low budget, found footage monster movie "Cloverfield" and the result was a blockbuster sensation. The nifty thriller marked the breakout feature film for director Matt Reeves who has since gone on to direct "Let Me In," "Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes," and the upcoming "War Of The Planet Of The Apes" and also served as an early career milestone for young actors like Lizzy Caplan and T.J. Miller. Can the upcoming "10 Cloverfield Lane" conjure the same magic?
As producer J.J. Abrams has made clear, the movie is not a direct sequel, and the exact nature of what director Dan Trachtenberg and the cast of Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Goodman, and John Gallagher Jr. have come up with remains tightly under wraps, but these pics and new IMAX TV spots perhaps hold some clues.
"10 Cloverfield Lane" opens on Friday.
