‘The New Look’ Trailer: Ben Mendelsohn Plays The Fashion Icon In New Apple TV+ Drama

How did Christian Dior become a fashion icon? “The New Look” seeks to answer that question by exploring a key period in not only Dior’s life but the fashion industry itself. This Apple TV+ series follows Dior as Paris is ravaged by Nazi occupation; the city, synonymous with fashion and style, is forced to find its way back to glory after succumbing to the horrors of World War II. Emmy Award winner Ben Mendelsohn leads the cast as Christian Dior, with Academy Award winner Juliette Binoche co-starring as Coco Chanel. Maisie Williams, John Malkovich, Emily Mortimer, and Claes Bang are just some of the actors who round out this talented ensemble.

The project’s soundtrack breathes new life into the period’s hits; it looks to today’s groundbreaking artists to cover classics as well as lesser-known fare. Grammy Award winner Jack Antonoff produces this new spin on biopic tracks, bringing in performers like Bleachers, Florence Welch, Lana Del Rey, Matty Healy (The 1975), Beabadoobee, Nick Cave,and Perfume Genius.

The series’ official synopsis:

“Set against the World War II Nazi occupation of Paris, “The New Look” focuses on the pivotal moment in the twentieth century when the French city led the world back to life through its fashion icon Christian Dior. As Dior rises to prominence with his groundbreaking, iconic imprint of beauty and influence, Chanel’s reign as the world’s most famous fashion designer is put into jeopardy. The interwoven saga follows the surprising stories of Dior’s contemporaries and rivals from Chanel to Pierre Balmain, Cristóbal Balenciaga and more; and, provides a stunning view into the atelier, designs and clothing created by Christian Dior through collaboration with the House of Dior.”

The first three episodes of “The New Look” premiere on Apple TV+ on February 14, another new episode debuts every Wednesday through April 3. Get your first look at the trailer below:
