Coming off the blood-pumping Viking epic “The Northman” from director Robert Eggers, Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgård (“Succession”) will be seen next in Brandon Cronenberg’s next movie “Infinity Pool.” But perhaps working alongside all these indie auteurs has activated something in the actor as Skarsgård is about to make his directorial debut soon.
A new report from Deadline reveals that Skarsgård will co-star and direct “The Pack,” which will also work as a reunion of sorts as Florence Pugh (“Midsommar”) will take a lead role too in the film as well. The two previously worked together on the mini-series adaptation of the John le Carré spy novel “The Little Drummer Girl” directed by South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-Wook.
The original thriller is written by screenwriter Rose Gilroy and “follows a group of documentarians who brave the remote wilderness of Alaska in an effort to save a nearly extinct species of wolves. Tensions flare when the crew is brought back together at a prestigious awards ceremony as a deadly truth threatens to unravel their work.” It sounds very much like the kinds of films the two actors have done in the past and certainly sounds like it will have some genre twist to it.
Pugh has recently enjoyed a run of high-profile studio blockbusters casting like Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Two” and Yelena Belova for Marvel’s action pic “Thunderbolts” from director Jake Schreier. Illustrating her range, she also just starred in the thriller “Don’t Worry Darling” and will be seen next month in Sebastián Lelio’s spiritual drama “The Wonder.” Her next film will be Christopher Nolan’s atomic bomb drama “Oppenheimer” which will arrive in theaters on July 21, 2023.
Filming on “The Pack” beings in March and heads to the American Film Market next week, where more casting could be revealed.
