'The Place Beyond The Pines' & Luc Besson's 'Malavita' Get 2013 Dates

nullGosling, De Niro, and some young whippersnappers get dates on the 2013 calendar, so let's skip the preamble and get right into it….

After premiering at TIFF and getting picked up by Focus Features, the arthouse shingle has set a March 29, 2013 limited release date for Derek Cianfrance's ambitious "The Place Beyond The Pines." The film stars Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper, Ben Mendelsohn, Eva Mendes, Ray Liotta, and Dane DeHaan in a sprawling drama about fathers and sons, and the consequences of sin from one generation to another. The date selected puts the lengthy film on the same weekend as blockbusters "The Host" and "G.I. Joe: Retaliation." But for anyone looking to avoid the multiplex, the arthouse is the place to see the movie we called "a brilliant, towering picture." Do what you can to see it on the big screen—it's more than worth it.

If it's action you're looking for, Luc Besson's "Malavita" will open on October 18, 2013. Starring veterans Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer and Tommy Lee Jones, and based on the novel by Tonino Benacquista, the action/comedy centers on a long-married couple (De Niro/Pfeiffer) with Mafia ties who are relocated to France through the witness protection program in an effort to hide their past. But of course, they get pulled back into "the business."

Lastly, "21 & Over"—the directorial debut from "The Hangover" writers Jon Lucas and Scott Moore—has moved up a couple of weeks to take over the the March 1, 2013 spot left vacant by "Elysium." And you can bet that Relativity is hoping that the party picture starring Miles Teller will do the same kind of explosive "Project X"-esque business the Warner Bros. picture did in the similar frame this year.
