Already at the head of the Oscar pack, Sony is readying one more big push for David Fincher‘s “The Social Network” they they hope will pay off with a plethora of Academy Award nominations to add to their already numerous wins the picture has received from over twenty critics groups around the country.
If for some reason you didn’t get a chance to see “The Social Network” when it was in theaters last fall, Sony is kindly re-releasing the film into six hundred cinemas this Friday, January 7th. But if you fear the high ticket prices, sticky floors and those idiots talking behind you, not to worry, because your local video store with have the extras laden DVD and BluRay the following Tuesday on January 11th. And if that isn’t enough, Sony has revamped the film’s website and it now boasts numerous clips and plethora of interviews and features for you to waste company time on. Not too bad.
The re-release should end up pushing the film’s wordwide box office to over $200 million; not bad for a film about a website with a $50 million budget. It’s a savvy move by Sony and certainly by time the Oscar broadcast rolls around there shouldn’t be any reason why anyone watching hasn’t seen the movie yet. [Deadline]
