To say there is quite a bit of debate surrounding the situation facing Palestinians in Gaza right now is a gross understatement. On one side, you have the Israeli government justifying violence based on the Hamas attack last October. And on the other side, you have the Palestinian people getting killed by the thousands with no end in sight, with some calling it a genocide. But even though it feels like a relatively new situation for many people who started to really pay attention to what’s happening, this is a war that has been raging for decades. And for filmmaker Farah Nabulsi, it’s a situation that she wants to shed light on with her latest film, “The Teacher.”

While the film doesn’t have an announced release date in North America, “The Teacher” is getting a release in select countries in the Middle East in February, so Farah Nabulsi has gone ahead and released the trailer for her film on her social media. As seen in the trailer, “The Teacher” is a film that follows the story of a Palestinian educator that is surviving in the occupied land, which is under constant threat of violence. He is also balancing his duties as a father figure to a young man while also trying to help his political cause. And we are able to witness this situation through the eyes of a young white woman, who is coming to teach in Palestine and fully realizing the extent of the chaos.
The film stars Saleh Bakri and Imogen Poots. As mentioned, “The Teacher” is written and directed by Nabulsi, who went out of her way to make sure the production of the film happened in Palestine. The film debuted at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival, where it earned mostly great reviews.
As mentioned, it’s still unclear when we might see “The Teacher” get a full worldwide release, but Nabulsi said the film will be seen in UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait on February 8. You can watch the trailer below:
