You really have to shake your head in utter disbelief when you realize that this world is going to be graced with the presence of a remake of “The Toxic Avenger” starring Peter Dinklage. That’s just a situation no one could have ever imagined. And yet, not only is that a reality, we also have our first teaser for the R-rated mayhem.

The teaser for the upcoming ‘Toxic Avenger’ remake is heavy on the tease. For those who aren’t familiar with the original film series (yes, there are multiple films, and they’re all gloriously deranged), “The Toxic Avenger” tells the story of a janitor who is down on his luck and gets exposed to toxic waste, turning him into a deformed superhero. He then goes on a mission of revenge, crushing skulls and ripping jaws along the way. Trust us, this isn’t a Marvel film, and the teaser does a great job of explaining how this film is a much gorier, adult affair.
Obviously, the addition of Dinklage as the star is enough to get excited about, but he’s joined in the cast by Elijah Wood, Julia Davis, Taylour Paige, Kevin Bacon, and Jacob Tremblay. But perhaps the best part of all of this is Macon Blair as the writer-director. Blair is one of the most interesting filmmakers working today, as the writer-director of “I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore,” which showcased his unique perspective and sensibilities. He does things a little different than most, and “The Toxic Avenger” could be the perfect showcase of his abilities as a storyteller. (Also, as an actor, you have to watch him in “Blue Ruin,” which is incredible.)
“The Toxic Avenger” is currently in the middle of some festival appearances and has yet to get an official release date. At this point, we’re looking at a 2024 release, to be honest.
Here’s the synopsis:
