When Tilda Swinton works with a director she likes, there’s a good chance she’ll wind up making another movie with them should the opportunity arise. One of the filmmakers on her Rolodex is Jim Jarmusch, with the pair previously collaborating on “Broken Flowers,” “The Limits Of Control,” and “Only Lovers Left Alive.” Now, it looks like she’s gearing up to re-team with the filmmaker once again.
Swinging through Paris for the Lumière Festival, the actress discussed her rich relationship with various directors, and revealed in the process, a fourth film with Jarmusch was in the works.
“These long conversations with some filmmakers, which continue over and over — we talk, we make a film, we keep talking, we make another film, and so on — it’s so rewarding….,” she told AlloCine (with some help from Google Translate). “The films are like the leaves of a tree and the conversation is the trunk. There is nothing better than working with your friends! I had a lot of luck meeting Derek [Jarman], for a million reasons, and especially the fact that he trained me in this family adventure. We worked together for nine years, we made seven films, and when he died, I thought, ‘Well, it’s impossible for me to find that.’ Of course, it was a unique relationship, like all relationships, but since then I’ve been working with Luca Guadagnino for almost twenty years , I’m going to shoot my fourth film with Jim Jarmusch; I’m still working with Bong Joon-Ho, Lynne Ramsay, Lynn Hershman, The Coen Brothers. Having had the good fortune to start this way, [it’s] very happy for me to discover that other people want to work like this. It’s so funny to work with your friends, life is too short to deprive yourself!”
There’s no word yet on what the actual project might be, but maybe we should just take a moment to chill — after all, Jarmusch dropped two movies last year, “Paterson” and the documentary, “Gimme Danger.” At the very least, it looks like the director is plotting something new with Swinton on board, and that’s enough to hold us over until we hear more news.
